'Kreutzer' Stradivarius: quick facts

The 'Kreutzer' is a violin made by Antonio Stradivari in 1727, late in his career. It is named after Rodolphe Kreutzer, the French violinist, composer, and teacher to whom Beethoven dedicated a famous violin sonata, although that dedication and this instrument are separate matters. The violin has a documented chain of ownership and has passed through major auctions and dealers. Like other Stradivari of the period just after the golden years, it is valued for its craftsmanship and tone. Its association with a renowned virtuoso adds to the provenance that collectors and players prize.
